THE CREATION OF OHMWORK – GEEZER BUTLER AND PEDRO HOWSE INTERVIEW
FPE Agents had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Geezer Butler and guitarist Pedro Howse about their latest G/Z/R recording Ohmwork. This CD is amazing so go check it out. Ohmwork is packed with hard hitting riffs and prophetic lyrics. Please read on. MP3 Samples are available at Geezer’s website.
Be sure to catch Geezer on the road with Black Sabbath on this summer’s Ozzfest.
FPE: As you did with Black Sabbath, are you also penning lyrics for GZR?
Geezer: “i wrote some lyrics, but most were written by Clark on this album. I did think up all the titles, however.”
FPE: Upon close listen the song lyrics seem to reflect the CDs title of Ohmwork. Did you set out to convey a message with this group of songs?
Geezer: “No there were no intended messages. Just lyrics about the world we live in and how life affects us.”
FPE: What bass and amps did you use for the recording of Ohmwork?
Geezer: “I used an Ampeg combo amp, the BA-500; a Line 6 Bass Pro preamp, and a Lakland 4-94 bass.”
FPE: Who is the girl singing on the tune Pseudocide?
Geezer: “Lisa Rieffel from an LA band called Killola.”
FPE: Pedro, what tuning did you play in on Ohmwork?
Pedro: “I tuned down to D throughout.”
FPE: Tell us how you got the gig playing with GZR please.
PH: “It goes back a way, Geezer used to come and jam with a band i was in called Crazy Angel, we did some demos back in the late 80's so we picked up the pieces again in 1995.”
FPE: Your tone on the CD is killer. What guitars and amps did you use for the recording?
PH: “Thank you, i used an SG with DR strings and 2 old JCM 800s into 2 4x12 Marshall cabs and a boss OD pedal also an old boss chorus pedal as well.”
FPE: When can the public see GZR perform live?
PH: “Hopefully sometime in the fall.”
FPE: What was the writing process like for Ohmwork? Did Geezer and you submit
riffs or did you all jam out or what?
PH: “Geezer would have riffs and i would have riffs so we combine ideas. We had so much stuff gathered over the years so it was a case of sorting thru it all, stripping it all down so we had a basis for Clark and Chad to create what is ohmwork.”
